This FEMA Independent Study series provides essential training in emergency management, covering the Incident Command System (ICS), the National Incident Management System (NIMS), the National Response Framework, and active shooter preparedness. It equips participants with the knowledge and skills to effectively respond to and manage a variety of emergency situations.

Introduces the basics of the Incident Command System (ICS), including its history, principles, structure, and relationship to the National Incident Management System (NIMS). Lays the foundation for higher-level ICS training.

IS-200.C: Basic Incident Command System for Initial Response, ICS 200

Reviews ICS with a focus on initial response and supervisory roles. Covers ICS organizational components, Command and General Staff roles, briefings, meetings, and flexibility in ICS structure. Builds on IS-100.C.

IS-700.B: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System

Provides an overview of NIMS and its framework for coordinated response across government, NGOs, and the private sector. Explains NIMS principles, ICS structures, Emergency Operations Center (EOC) functions, and communications systems.

IS-800.D: National Response Framework, An Introduction

Introduces the National Response Framework (NRF) and its guidance for the whole community, including government, NGOs, and private partners. Focuses on roles, responsibilities, core response capabilities, and operational planning for emergency response.

IS-907.A: Active Shooter: What You Can Do

Provides guidance for non-law enforcement staff and volunteers on preventing, responding to, and recovering from active shooter incidents. Covers recognizing threats, response actions, assisting victims, and recovery considerations.
