Heartsaver CPR & AED

Overview:
The Heartsaver CPR/AED course is an in-person training designed to equip community members and non-medical professionals with the essential skills needed to respond confidently during cardiac emergencies. Developed by the American Heart Association (AHA), this course is ideal for individuals with little or no medical background who require a course completion card for employment or who want to be prepared to save a life.
Through a combination of video-based instruction, hands-on practice, and guided group interaction, participants will learn how to recognize cardiac arrest, activate emergency response systems, and provide effective CPR and AED use until advanced medical care arrives. This training is offered at no cost as part of University Hospitals’ commitment to Building Lifesaving Communities.
Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

Recognize the signs of cardiac arrest and other life-threatening emergencies.

Perform high-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants.

Use an automated external defibrillator (AED) safely and effectively.

Demonstrate proper techniques for relieving choking in adults, children, and infants.
-
Respond quickly and appropriately in emergency situations until professional help arrives.
Course Structure
This course follows the American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR/AED curriculum and includes:

Certification
Upon successful completion, participants will receive:

An official American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR/AED course completion card that is valid for 2 years
This certification is commonly required for roles such as:

Lifeguards

School employees and students
-
Daycare and childcare workers

Community volunteers and staff
Cost:
There is no cost for this course.
Training is provided through University Hospitals Community Benefit as part of its mission to build safer, more prepared communities.
