Lifesaving Skills for Medical Professionals
Initial EMS Certifications
These initial state certification courses provide the foundational training required to begin and advance a career in Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Designed to build progressive levels of knowledge and hands-on skill, each course prepares students to respond confidently to medical and trauma emergencies while meeting state certification requirements for professional practice.

EMT (Emergency Medical Technician)
The EMT course provides foundational training in prehospital emergency care and patient transport. Students learn to assess patients, manage airway and breathing, control bleeding and shock, and provide safe, effective care for medical and trauma emergencies as part of the EMS system.

Hybrid EMT (Emergency Medical Technician)
The EMT course provides foundational training in prehospital emergency care and patient transport. Students learn to assess patients, manage airway and breathing, control bleeding and shock, and provide safe, effective care for medical and trauma emergencies as part of the EMS system.

AEMT (Advanced Emergency Medical Technician)
The AEMT course builds on EMT training by introducing limited advanced life support skills. Students learn advanced airway techniques, intravenous access, medication administration, and expanded patient assessment while working under medical oversight within a comprehensive EMS response.

Anatomy & Physiology Prerequisite (Paramedic)
This prerequisite course provides future paramedics with essential training in human anatomy and physiology. Participants build the foundational knowledge needed to understand body systems, physiologic processes, and how the body responds to illness and injury. Successful completion prepares students for advanced coursework and entry into the UH EMS Institute Paramedic Program.

Paramedic Program
The Paramedic course prepares students to deliver advanced life support in complex medical and traumatic emergencies. Training includes advanced airway management, cardiac monitoring and ECG interpretation, pharmacology, and critical decision-making, preparing graduates for leadership roles in prehospital and hospital-based emergency care.

TechCred Credentials (Paramedic)
This credential provides paramedics with advanced training in emergency and trauma care. Participants enhance critical skills used in high-acuity medical situations and prepare for roles in ambulances, specialized response units, and hospital emergency or critical care settings.
